I lost family, and a part of me is still in denial, unable to come to terms. I saw a friend battle for his life, and it still scares me; had my own scare, and it felt like this was terminal. Heard of a family that lost a mother and daughter; with the son and father fighting for their lives in the ICU. We need to understand that there’s no normal to return to, no one is safe, we need to be more careful, if not for us, then for those we love and care about. Get the vaccine if you can, there’s a lot of misinformation moving around, but it’s our best option against this scourge. Covid-19 is claiming lives.
SCOURGE
A year in,
And it all feels like we’ll be here for a while,
Dealing with this;
Slowly watching it take its toll on our lives,
We lost loved ones,
We’ll never see again,
Helplessly watched as their organs shut down;
Praying, hoping; but knowing how this ends;
Watching families divided into half;
One half already gone,
The other half fighting for their lives;
In Intensive Care Units;
I saw a close friend,
Reduced to a shell of his former self;
Fighting for his life;
Hoping medicine would save him;
We were weeks away from getting the vaccine;
But fell sick a couple of days short;
Felt our body burning;
Hoping to win against the virus;
A lot of us still move;
Like there’s a normal to return to;
Still move, hoping our lives will remain unaffected;
But we are beyond that, we need to understand that.
