LIFE SHOULD HAVE MOURNED WITH US

No one prepares you for grief, no one shows you how to grieve. In a way, we hope that it can all end, that the world should have stopped; even just for a second, to mourn with us.

LIFE SHOULD HAVE MOURNED WITH US

No one teaches you to grieve,
No one prepares you for the hate it brings;
And the uncertainty that every day comes with;
The moments lost in thought,
Because of the pain;

You sleep with the lights on;
Because ghosts are things;
We are scared of;
But the memories of them that make them real;
Keep us sane in our darkest moments;

Pain becomes something you carry with you;
It’s the strongest tangible reminder;
Of the life they lived;
That they were once here;
That they once walked this earth beside us;

Comfort feels strange;
Like an emotion we’ve never known;
Or something we should never feel;
Life should have stopped;
Life should have mourned with us;

Sometimes;
We sleep with the lights off;
Sometimes;
The darkness feels safe;
Like an acceptance of our own grief.
